The Origin of Limonceflo
The Origin of Limonceflo
The story of our Limonceflo goes back more than 15 years when Marco, an Italian man with a temperament as gentle as the finest liqueurs, discovered the recipe. Marco grew up in Sanremo, on the splendid Riviera dei fiori, in the northwest of Italy.
About 40 years ago, Marco inherited a small two-room apartment located on the heights of Sanremo, offering a breathtaking view of the historic old town known as "La Pigna." Quickly, this place became the family's favorite vacation spot.
Nearly 30 years ago, Hedi, Marco's wife, planted a small lemon tree in the garden of this apartment. This tree continued to grow into a magnificent specimen, robust and full of energy (and fruit). It perfectly symbolizes their relationship.
At first, the lemons were mainly used for their juice (nothing like a delicious homemade lemonade in summer!). But everything changed the day Marco, sitting on his terrace contemplating the Mediterranean, challenged himself to create a typical liqueur from his country: limoncello. Over the years, Marco and Hedi perfected the recipe to achieve the perfect balance between alcohol, sugar, and the delicious taste of lemon. It must be said that the family was always eager to participate in the tastings...
Once the perfect recipe was found, the secret of this limoncello was jealously guarded, and this uniquely flavored liqueur accompanied countless family meals... Until the day their granddaughter Amélie introduced them to Florian, a dynamic young man and great enthusiast of digestifs, who immediately fell under the charm of the limoncello. Florian was instantly won over by the combination of the pronounced lemon flavor and the quality of a true digestif. Indeed, the nectar perfected by Marco offers a perfect balance between the freshness of lemon and the invigorating effect of a digestif.
One day, Marco gave Florian a surprising and moving gift: for the first time, he revealed the secret recipe of his famous limoncello. Immediately caught up in the excitement, Florian asked for Marco's blessing to conduct his own experiments, a request met with a big smile (and a few tears of joy).
Three years later, after many liters produced, tested, and savored, the desire was born to share this unique and delicious liqueur. Always with the blessing of its creator and scrupulously respecting the original recipe, Florian is proud to present you his Limonceflo.
The Birth of Spritcello
Building on the success of Limonceflo, Florian wanted to go further in the range. The idea: to create a less alcoholic variant, specifically designed for spritz. Because while Limonceflo is a digestif in its own right, something lighter in alcohol content, less sweet, that remains true to the authenticity of the range — without sweeteners or artificial flavors — and pairs perfectly with a local sparkling wine was needed.
The recipe was born from a collaboration with Arthur Vocat, from the R&D department of Distillerie Louis Morand & Cie SA in Martigny. Today, Spritcello is produced directly by Lemon Brothers — a natural step in the brand's evolution.
Thus was born the Spritcello in 2023: a Swiss artisanal lemon aperitif, calibrated to enhance a bubble from our region. One part Spritcello, two parts sparkling wine from Chablais or Lavaux, a few ice cubes — and you have an aperitif that rivals the great international brands.
What the Experts Say
Over the years, Lemon Brothers has submitted its products to the most demanding international competitions. Limonceflo and Spritcello have collected more than 16 medals, including a Double Gold in Berlin, a Grand Gold at the Frankfurt International Trophy 2025, and a Silver at the IWSC London 2025. External validation that confirms what the family’s friends have known for a long time: Marco’s recipe really holds up.
